We hold no reseller commission on Databricks. That is what makes the trade-off line above worth reading. It costs us nothing to tell you when this is the wrong choice.

Building with Databricks

Databricks is strongest at one platform covering data engineering, analytics and machine learning. We reach for it when that is the property a workload actually depends on, and we say so when it is not.

Databricks earns its weight when data engineering, analytics and machine learning are genuinely one workflow rather than three teams handing files between them. The lakehouse model removes the copy step that usually sits between the warehouse and the ML environment.

Below that, it is more platform than most workloads need. A Postgres database and a scheduled job cover a surprising amount of what gets proposed as a lakehouse project, and we will say so.

We build the smallest thing that proves the case, put it in front of real users, and expand only what earns its keep. You own the code, the models where they are open-weight, and the documentation to run it without us.

Questions

What is Databricks best at?

One platform covering data engineering, analytics and machine learning.

When would you not use Databricks?

Heavier than most mid-market workloads need. We would look at pgvector or Pinecone in that situation.

Do you have a commercial relationship with Databricks?

No. We hold no reseller commission on any technology we recommend, which is what lets the trade-off above be stated plainly.

Can you work with our existing Databricks setup?

Yes. We would rather extend and stabilise something that already works than introduce a parallel system your team has to learn.

Working with Databricks?

Tell us the workload and we will tell you whether this is the right tool for it.
